Real shagreen, a natural hide—a byproduct of the fishing industry—has been around since the middle ages. When Madame de Pompadour took a liking to its velvety texture, wide spread use of decorative shagreen came in to fashion.
Shagreen, the skin of a shark or stingray is now an ecological no-no. But faux shagreen is a whole other story. Faux finishes from shagreen to Belgian linens and raffias are now available in a wide range of products.
Nobody does it better than Made Goods, with their beautiful finishes and clever styling.
